Alaska, Newfoundland and Labrador...
This month’s Trike of the Month goes to a very worthy couple, Dennis and Susan Beals from Ironwood, MI. The Beals have had some incredible adventures with their Roadsmith Trike while clocking some serious miles along the way.
Their story begins back in 2008 when they had their 2002 Honda Gold Wing converted to a Roadsmith trike here at the factory in White Bear Lake. Knowing that their new trike was ready for some action, they immediately left on a trip to Alaska covering 8,200 challenging miles in a mere 30 days. That’s an average of 273 miles per day and we happen to know that they took a few days off during the trip… meaning they had some big mile days in there! Despite the long days in the saddle, they said their Roadsmith was just as comfortable as anything they could imagine.
Since heading to Alaska on their maiden voyage, the Dennis and Susan have traveled all over the lower 48 states and all the provinces in Canada (except for the Northwest Territories). That is an amazing feat in and of itself, but their incredible journeys don’t stop there and they had other distant destinations on the horizon.
Last year they took a trip to Newfoundland and Labrador putting on another 7,200 miles in just 30 days. Again, an amazing amount of ground covered during their adventure. On this trip, Susan decided to chronicle their travels and there is an informative and entertaining account of their travels at bealstravel.blogspot.com.
"In the 5 seasons of riding since the conversion we have had no mechanical issues" says Dennis about his HT1800 kit. "The bike had 90,007 miles on the odometer when I stored it last fall" he adds. Knowing the Beals, that odometer will be moving briskly again soon!
We couldn’t be happier to have Dennis and Susan Beals as our Trike of the Month for April. They personify the adventure and travel for which we build our trike kits and, with the riding season upon us, they inspire us all to go farther.
